Angle Iron Lean-To Trusses — Blackwater Truss Systems
The Angle Iron Lean-To Truss from Blackwater Truss Systems is a strong, cost-effective solution for extending your building. Designed with durability and affordability in mind, these trusses are ideal for adding covered storage, equipment shelters, or side extensions to new or existing buildings.
*Please note: This truss type is meant to be used as an addition to a new or existing structure ONLY. This truss is NOT meant to be used as a standalone structure.*
This truss features overhang on the low side of the truss ONLY. There is no overhang on the high side.
Built for Practical Additions
Angle iron lean-to trusses are engineered to provide reliable support for single-slope roof systems, making them perfect for side attachments, extensions, or open-air shelters. Their simple design provides efficient water runoff while maintaining structural strength.
Each truss is prefabricated in our facility to ensure consistent quality, accurate measurements, and quick installation. Like our gable trusses, angle lean-to trusses are typically spaced 8 to 12 feet apart, depending on the building design and local code requirements. This wider spacing reduces the number of trusses required, minimizing overall material and labor costs.
Standard Design Features
- Material: Fabricated from high-quality angle iron, available in 1.5" or 2" sizes.
- Pitch: Standard 1.5/12 roof pitch (no custom pitches offered on angle trusses).
- Spans: Offered in standard lean-to widths for common building layouts and side extensions.
- Coating: Supplied with a durable primer coating for long-term corrosion protection.
- Inside Measurement (ISM): ISM is 5.5 inches less than the nominal span (e.g., a 20’ lean-to has an ISM of 19’ 6.5”). This measurement ensures the truss fits between posts, not over them, for a clean structural connection.
Important Note on Customization
Blackwater Truss Systems does not offer custom angle iron lean-to trusses. All lean-to trusses made from angle are built to standard spans, standard 1.5/12 pitch, and standard inside measurements. For projects requiring non-standard spans or pitches, tube lean-to trusses are recommended.
Ideal Applications
- Side additions to barns, garages, and shops
- Equipment and vehicle shelters
- Open-air work areas or loafing sheds
- Simple extensions for added coverage or shade
- Agricultural structures needing cost-effective roof coverage
Why Choose Angle Iron Lean-To Trusses
- Cost-Effective: Angle iron provides a strong, budget-friendly option for small to mid-sized lean-to applications.
- Prefabricated: Built in our facility for accuracy and quick installation — no field assembly required.
- Efficient Design: Single-slope profile allows for easy water runoff and clean attachment to existing structures.
- Standardized Construction: Designed for common building widths and pitches, making ordering simple and reliable.
- Engineered Assurance: All trusses meet or exceed structural requirements and are built with Blackwater quality.
Key Takeaway
The Angle Iron Lean-To Truss is a reliable and economical choice for side extensions, shelters, and basic storage structures. With prefabricated steel strength, standardized sizing, and a durable primer finish, these trusses provide a straightforward solution for expanding your building — backed by Blackwater Truss Systems’ engineering expertise.
