Gable Truss Buyer’s Guide

A practical overview from Blackwater Truss Systems

What Is a Gable Truss?

A gable truss is the classic peaked-roof style, with equal slopes on each side. It is the most common and versatile roof system offered by Blackwater Truss Systems.

Applications Best Suited for Gable Trusses

- General-purpose barns and shops

- Agricultural storage buildings

- Garages and workshops

- Structures requiring a symmetrical, traditional roofline

- Enclosed or open-sided buildings where even snow and water shedding is important

Standard Pitch and Custom Options

- Blackwater’s standard gable trusses are designed at a 4/12 pitch.

- All prices listed on our website represent this standard 4/12 pitch.

- Any pitch other than 4/12 is considered custom, and customers should call us for a quote before ordering.

Inside Measurements

Gable trusses are designed to sit between the posts of your building. This reduces the clear span inside the structure:

- A 40' gable truss provides an inside measurement of 39'1".

- A 24' gable truss provides an inside measurement of 23'1".

- In general, subtract 11 inches from the nominal truss span to calculate the inside clear span.

Why Choose a Gable Truss

- Versatile and widely used design

- Strong, efficient performance for spans up to 100’

- Classic appearance that fits most building applications

- Even slope design ensures effective water and snow shedding

Blackwater Truss Systems engineers and fabricates every gable truss to meet your building’s specifications, delivering strength, reliability, and proven performance.
